Hangry Joe's was born out of a simple obsession: creating the most craveable, boldly spiced hot chicken in Houston. Founder Joe Martinez grew up eating his grandmother's spicy home cooking in the Third Ward, where every meal was a celebration of flavor, community, and love.

After years of perfecting recipes in his home kitchen — testing heat levels on unsuspecting friends and family — Joe took the leap in 2018 and opened the first Hangry Joe's location at 4201 Martin Luther King Blvd. What started as a tiny counter-service spot quickly became a neighborhood landmark.

Today, hangry joes is synonymous with Houston's boldest flavors. Every piece of chicken is hand-brined, hand-breaded, and cooked to order — a commitment to quality that has never wavered since day one.

2016

The Spark

Joe Martinez begins developing his signature hot chicken recipe in his home kitchen in the Third Ward, inspired by his grandmother's legendary spice blends and a deep love for Nashville-style heat.

2018

Doors Open

Hangry Joe's officially opens at 4201 Martin Luther King Blvd with a 10-item menu and 5 heat levels. Lines form around the block on opening weekend. The neighborhood has spoken.

2019

Houston's Best Hot Chicken

Hangry Joe's is named "Best New Restaurant" by Houston Food Magazine and featured in Texas Monthly's "Must-Try Spots." Social media goes wild. Demand triples overnight.

2021

Delivery & Expansion

We launch our own delivery platform and expand the menu to 30+ items including tenders, sandwiches, and our legendary sides. Online orders account for 40% of revenue within 6 months.

2023

Community Hub

Hangry Joe's launches the "Feed the Ward" initiative, partnering with three local organizations to provide weekly meals to families in need. We also begin hosting community events every month.
